This probably ought to get some kind of award for least updated news section ever, but given a few cool things are happening right now, I thought I’d better crawl out of my bunker and put them up here. Namely:
I’m now on Substack - posting bits of old concept fiction, game design notes, new fragments of writing, scenes that never made it into games and all sorts. You can find me here - Dan Pinchbeck | Substack - so please head over and subscribe. It’ll be worth it, promise.
Still Wakes the Deep, the game I conceived, wrote and directed through to alpha before I left The Chinese Room won 3 BAFTAs: Original IP and Best Lead and Supporting Performers (and was nominated for 6 in total). SWTD has won and been nominated for a load of other awards too, which is very cool.
It means that amazingly, games I’ve created and directed have been nominated for an incredible 23 BAFTAs and won 6. I’m still finding that a mind-blowing thing. The best bit is that I’ve finally got a BAFTA mask. Weirdly, I’ve never actually had one so I’m dead chuffed to be able to actually own one.
I spoke to the New York Times about DOOM. That’s always a pleasure…
I’m now bobbing up to the National Film & Television School every month as an industry mentor for their game students. It’s always really fun and exciting to work with young game-makers and there’s some really great stuff happening up there. I also went over to Christchurch Canturbury University for the day recently to give a talk about transitioning into industry to their game students. That was followed by an afternoon offering up advice and mentoring to their Tranfuzer teams.
I’m a really big fan of Tranfuzer so it’s great to be able to be part of that in anyway.
