I've been teaching and researching since 2003, after several years working as a project manager, marketer and development director in digital and new media arts. In this short time, I've been selected to represent the University in our forthcoming RAE, have been awarded a major speculative grant from the AHRC, published extensively and recieved a learning and teaching award. I'm pleased with that as a start. I have retained contacts from my prior life in the arts and still consult and very occasionally collaborate, build the odd website, write the odd rant or review and try and keep up the bad penny thing at infrequent intervals. I've written two novels and am currently struggling with a third. The first one got noticed by a major literary agent but didn't make it through the net on account of being 'too weird'. The second is a space opera: full marks for a coherent narrative but written at the wrong time. The third is about art, alcohol, aspiration and revolution on the streets of Hull. I'm married to a beautiful and talented composer, Jessica. Her website is here. We've got a little boy, Oscar, who will one day rule the world and it'll be a damn site better place for it. Expect music, dancing and many jokes about poo. Despite the research focus, I'm bloody awful at FPS games and have to play at the easiest levels.
